"Invoking the Eagle Spirit"
by Gloria West
Award-winning
artist Gloria West has over twenty years' experience as a fine
artist. She began as a successful wildlife artist in Montana where
she won numerous Best of Show awards. The artist has finished as
high as third place in the State of Montana Duck Stamp competition, and
has also been a finalist four times in the National Ducks Unlimited stamp
competition.
In the early 1990's, Gloria West decided to move from Montana to Kansas
City to be closer to her father. Soon after moving, she decided on a
major career move, using her talent and experience as a fine art wildlife
painter to begin a new career as an illustrator.
Gloria West's most recent artwork combines a realistic style with
whimsical and charming characters, using strong color and compelling
composition. Her images display a contemporary and very savvy style
and wit. The artist works in mixed
media, including mostly acrylics, watercolor, pen, pencil and colored
pencil.
The artist studied art at the University of Kansas, and comes from a
family of strong artists. Her paternal uncle is the famous modern
artists and sculptor John Angus Chamberlain who has work in the Guggenheim
Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
