"Music, Martini and Flowers"
by Dawn Collins
Dawn Collins has been creating art since she could hold a crayon, creating some of her first works on her pillow case with the ball point pen she sneaked from her mother's purse. The artist comes from a long line of free-spirited, creative women who taught her to believe in hope, to chase down dreams and see beauty everywhere. As she puts it, "Art is in my genes. It's not what I do, it's who I am and I love it.
"I am self taught with a background in textiles. I am always learning, exploring new techniques and getting messy with my art. I like to get my hands into it often using my finger tips rather than a paint brush. No computer generated art for me.
"I'm not sure what genre my art would be placed in...folk art? avant garde? Happy! Happy is what it is, with lots of color and details hidden throughout. I want my art to bring the viewer peace, love and happiness. I want to encourage the dreams and smiles and whimsy that sometimes gets bogged down under life.
"My art can be found in collections all over the United States as well as Canada, Greece and Belgium. I am so lucky to be able to do what I love, making art surrounded by my kids, pets, sunflowers and peace.
